Solving equations with integers uses the same process
as the other algebra that you have studied.
|
1. Simplify the equation (if possible)
2. Use inverse operations to get the variable alone.
3. Check with substitution.
| 3n - 4 = -16
+4 +4
3n = -12
3n ÷ 3 = -12 ÷ 3
n = -4
3 * (-4) - 4 = -16
-12 - 4 = -16
-12 + -4 = -16
-16 = -16
